MIAMI, Florida – The Miami Heat are back at home and are looking to bounce back in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
After dropping Games 4 and 5 on the road against the Dallas Mavericks, the Heat are thankful that they will have the home court advantage for Game 6 – and if necessary, Game 7.
“You have no reason not to be confident when you come home,” said Miami’s Filipino-American coach, Erik Spoelstra.
“We’ve had a lot of success closing out games. The key for us is to stay the course,” he added.
But Spoelstra also acknowledged that anything can happen in Game 6.
“There’s so many different opinions and storylines out there. The reality is no one really knows,” he said.
“This is a great series, and both teams feel very confident in the positions they’re in.”
Miami’s star forward LeBron James admitted that in order for them to win the best-of-seven series, he has to play better.
“I shifted my focus to how can I be better and how can our team be better in Game 6,” said James.
“We worked all year to get home court, and even though we’re in an elimination game, we feel like we still have a great opportunity with this series going back to Miami.”
The Heat are also thankful that the hip injury that Dwyane Wade sustained in Game 5 will not affect him in Game 6.
“This is just another day of getting treatment and getting rest,” Wade said, before saying that he will be fine come game time.
During last year’s Finals, the Boston Celtics went up 3-2 against the Los Angeles Lakers, but the Lakers were able to win the last two games in their home court and claim their second straight championship.
The Mavericks are well aware of what Miami is capable of in their home court, which is why they are determined to come out strong and win Game 6.
"Every minute that you're out there in the NBA Finals you've got an opportunity to gain ground. That's what we're looking to do," said Dallas coach Rick Carlisle.
Mavericks guard Jason Terry added that they weren't thinking about celebrating at all.
"We're thinking about coming out in the first quarter, being aggressive, and maintaining that aggression for 48 minutes."
