QUEZON, Philippines – High-powered explosives were found in the possession of a murder suspect arrested in Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City, Quezon early Thursday.
Police recovered a C4 bomb, 2 grenades, electrical wires, different models of cellular phones and an improvised shotgun from the suspect, identified as Julane Luganao Sison, 33.
There are reports linking the suspect to the EDSA bus bombing incident last January 25 that killed 4 people.
However, authorities have yet to confirm this.
Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr., spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, said he has not received any kind of information regarding the arrest of Sison.
Burgos added that he only heard about the story through the media.
In an inquest proceeding administered by State Prosecutor Juan Navera, Sison denied that he owned the explosives.
The suspect further said the arrest was a case of mistaken identity, claiming that his name was Jonathan Abduljabar Romero.
The suspect was arrested by joint elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Quezon Province Police.
He is now detained at Camp Crame and will face charges of illegal possession of explosives, firearms and ammunition.
