MAGUINDANAO – Twelve barangays in the town of Pagalungan in Maguindanao are still submerged in floodwaters, prompting the local government units to place the town under a state of calamity.
The town of Datu Montawal is also submerged in floodwaters.
Farmers in Datu Montawal are now seeking help after their crops have been washed out and damaged by the flood. Cornfields and rice fields in the area are still under water and thick mud.
Utos Lago, a farmer who owns 2 hectares of cornfield is now worried about what will happen to his family. He said planting corn is their only source of living.
"Sana meron kaming tulong na matanggap para sa binhi at makapagtanim kami muli," Lago said.
Ali Kusain, a barangay treasurer of Barangay Limbalod and farmer, is placed in a difficult situation.
He only borrowed the money for planting corn seeds but all were flushed out by flood waters. He said he cannot pay his debt if the money he is expecting from his gains from the cornfield is now gone.
The farmers are asking for the government's help to provide them with corn and rice seeds so they can plant again after waters have subsided.
Meantime, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development office have already listed 4,300 families affected in 11 barangays of the municipality.
The local government units, together with the provincial government, continue to assist families affected.
